What is Girl Scouting?
It's all about Fun, Friends and Fabulous Opportunities
Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. It's where girls discover the fun, friendship, and power of girls together.
One of the few organizations that is girl-focused and girl-driven, Girl Scouting is a unique girl-only place where a girl finds:
- Courage by exploring new adventures
- Confidence by discovering her abilities and creating friendships with other girls
- Character by shaping her values
- ...and where a girl returns those gifts by making the world a better place.
Girl Scouting is for every girl, everywhere- where today's girls can become tomorrow's leaders. Membership in Girl Scouts is open to girls ages 5-17 who accept the Girl Scout Promise and Law; women and men over 17 can join as adult members.
Membership is $12 per year for girls and adults; a Girl Scout uniform is not required. No girl will be denied membership in Girl Scouts for financial reasons. Most girls join a local troop or group for fun and friendship, but another option for girls is to become an individually registered Girl Scout, or Juliette. Juliettes can participate in the same types of activities as those in which girls in troops participate, but they are not affiliated with a troop.
There are six program levels:
-

Health and Safety is a prime concern of the Girl Scout organization. Health standards and accident prevention are built into the total program. All activities are planned and carried out so as to safeguard the health, safety and general well-being of the participants.
