Girl Scout Cookie Donation Benefits Gulf Coast Families
AUGUST 2010
From the first news reports about the oil spill in the gulf to the photos of oil covered birds along the beach, Girl Scouts across the country looked for ways help. On August 12, members of Metairie Girl Scout Junior Troop 40786 spent the morning packing Girl Scout cookies and other food items at Second Harvest Food Bank for distribution to families along the Gulf coast affected by the oil spill.
"We all enjoyed helping out," said Donna Mendal, Girl Scout adult volunteer. The local council, Girl Scouts Louisiana East, who donated over 500 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to Second Harvest for the packing event, was represented by Marianne Addy, vice president of communications and fund development. "The council, along with many of our Girl Scouts in southeast Louisiana, wanted to show support to families affected by the oil spill," said Addy.
