Girl Scout Night at Red Stick Roller Derby
MARCH 2011
Red Stick Roller Derby invites Girl Scouts of all ages to experience the excitement of roller derby at a Saturday, March 19 double header at the Baton Rouge River Center’s Exhibition Hall. Beginning at 6 p.m. the Capital Defenders all-star team take on Jackson, Mississippi’s Magnolia Roller Vixens followed by the Diables Rouges versus the Beach Brawl Sk8ter Dolls from Ft. Walton, Florida at 7:30 p.m. Girl Scouts Louisiana East is the designated charity for the evening, giving the community an opportunity to experience this renewed sport for women while supporting Girl Scouts.
“We are excited the Red Stick Roller Derby selected Girl Scouts as the recipient of this event’s charitable fundraising efforts,” said Marianne Addy, vice president of communications and fund development for the local Girl Scout council. According to Addy, in addition to a portion of the ticket sales going to support the council, the Red Stick teams will also be facilitating a program for the Girl Scouts on May 13 to teach the girls the rules of roller derby and the skills needed in this all-female sport.
General admission tickets are $12 in advance at ticketmaster.com or $14 at the door, and $17 for VIP tickets. Children under 12 are admitted free with a ticket holding adult. Doors will open for the March 19 event at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Sandy Sandifer at ssandifer1@cox.net or check their website at www.redstickrollerderby.com.
