At Girl Scouts Louisiana East we want to prepare our adult leaders to facilitate learning for the girls the best way possible. We hope to tap into your special talents and abilities to create a wonderful experience for you and the girls.

Volunteer for Girl Scouts Louisiana East in any position

Girl Scouting 101 - NEW online Introduction to Girl Scouting (launching mid August, 2011). The easy-to-use Girl Scouting 101 introduces new volunteers to Girl Scouts’ inspiring national leadership experience, from Journey resources and The Girl’s Guide to Girl Scouting to cookie sales, safety guidelines, and much more. Spend about 45-50 minutes learning online-whenever you can fit it into

Volunteer to work directly or indirectly with girls, i.e. Troop Leaders, Camp, Series, Event, Travel or Virtual Pathway Volunteers.

Volunteer Orientation - a face to face orientation with a volunteer manager or staff member, focusing on your volunteer position, reviewing Volunteer Essentials, and Girl Scouts Louisiana East procedures. 

 

This session is scheduled directly with a volunteer mentor or staff member.  If you do not have a volunteer member, please call 504-733-8220 to schedule this session.

*required of all volunteers. 

Volunteer as a Troop Leader, Assistant Troop Leader, Camp, Series, Event, Travel or Virtual Pathway Volunteer directly mentoring girls.

Leadership Essentials - a face to face group session focusing on managing a group of girls while providing a safe Girl Scout Leadership Experience.  Introduction to incorporating Journeys, the Girls Guide to Girl Scouting and all aspects of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning into your troop/groups experience.

Continue to develop your skills while directly mentoring girls. For experienced or returning Troop Leaders, Camp, Series, Event, Travel or Virtual Pathway Volunteers.

3 Processes: One Powerful Program - face to face hands on session designed to give you more ideas for making journeys, badges, and any activity you do more exciting and engaging for girls.  You will learn more ideas for helping girls plan and make decisions, tips for customizing journeys and badges to meet your girl's Interest, plus fun ways for girls to reflect on their Girl Scout experiences. 

Take a troop/group on an outing. Must be a registered and screened adult volunteer.

First Aid & Adult/Child CPR (Level I First Aid) consists of hands-on, lecture and visual information on administering CPR and first aid to adults and children.

 

*required of at least one adult volunteer working with a troop or group.  Does not have to be the troop or assistant troop leader.

 

Take a troop/group on a day or overnight camping and/or outdoor cooking experience. Must be a registered and screened adult volunteer

Camping Skills (coming soon)

  • Camp Prep & Paperwork - e learning online session getting you ready for your camp session.
  • Camp Ready - e learning online session ensuring your troop/group is ready to camp
  • Basic Camping-overnight at Council campsite or approved outdoor site.

 

*required of at least one adult volunteer working with a troop or group before planning a day

outing with a cookout or a camping trip. Does not have to be the troop or assistant troop leader.
Gain more knowledge and skills while working directly or indirectly with girls. Any or all of our Enrichment Courses offered throughout the year: Take Action, Advanced Outdoor Skills, Geocaching……and more!

At Girl Scouts Louisiana East we want to prepare our adult volunteers to facilitate learning for the girls the best way possible.  We hope to tap into your special talents and abilities to create a wonderful experience for you and the girls.  Lists of scheduled learning sessions are published here as well as online and distributed periodically to all Girl Scout volunteers.  The schedule includes course descriptions, scheduled dates/times, location, registration deadlines, fees (if any) and prerequisites.  Check with your designated volunteer mentor or staff member for further Information about adult learning requirements.

 

Pre-registration is required for all face to face sessions, and only currently registered members of Girl Scouts of the USA may participate in learning sessions.   Not all courses are listed in this publication - learning sessions are added throughout the year to meet volunteer’s needs, please visit the council website's adult learning section at www.gsle.org.
