Adult Learning and Support
Congratulations on making a great decision to become a Girl Scout volunteer. For those of you continuing your involvement with our organization, thank you!
Girl Scouts Louisiana East offers many free learning opportunities to THANK our volunteers and to help them gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to successfully facilitate a meaningful and safe Girl Scout experience. Though most courses are free, some may include a nominal expense for books, certifications or food necessary to complete the course.
Learning opportunities come in many forms: face to face, e-learning, online resources, discussions, conferences and more. After completing the required courses for your volunteer position, please continue your learning experience by selecting enrichment courses offered throughout the year.
For additional questions, please contact Jill Pollard, Director, Adult Development, at jpollard@gsle.org
How to register for Adult Learning Sessions:
Prior to registering for a course, please check the website for an updated list of learning sessions. Sessions are subject to change date and time.
Select the session and sign up one of two ways - online using our using Online registration form (preferred method) or by
Downloading the Adult Learning registration form (PDF format), and returning it via mail or fax to the council, along with any payments.
Read the descriptions to determine what sessions you need to take. Check for prerequisites and any other requirements. Be sure to plan ahead for what you might need later in the year. Pre-registration is mandatory due to space limitations; sessions are sometimes cancelled, or details change and we will need to contact you.
The Girl Scout Leadership Experience
All learning sessions offered by Girl Scouts Louisiana East define how the Girl Scout Program is the Girl Scout Leadership Experience which includes what we do with girls, how we do it and how girls will benefit. The program activities are organized around the Girl Scout three keys to leadership (discover, connect, take action) and are based on the values of the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
• Discover – the girls explore their values, skills and world.
• Connect – they engage in teaming up and relating with others in a multicultural world.
• Take Action – the girls engage in activities that make a difference in the world.
The processes of girl led, learning by doing, and cooperative learning are integrated into the activities (what girls do). The processes (how girls do it) create an environment of fun and friendship for girls, determine the quality of the experience, and make Girl Scouting unique, thus further enabling the development of leadership skills.
