Girl Scouts Louisiana East has been selected to participate in a national community action project, Girl Scouts Forever Green! Join us as we help girls develop and use their leadership skills to impact the environment in their schools and communities to improve air quality, energy use, water use, waste management, and use of green space.
To help prepare for and celebrate our upcoming 100th anniversary of Girl Scouting in 2012, we are asking you to commit to an earth friendly project over the next three years. Girl Scouts have always been “green” and we want to make sure we stay “forever green!”

Project Learning Tree is a Great Online Resource!
Monthly Challenge
Here are some ways that you can help this cause:
- Start a No Idling program at your school.
- Start a walk to school program - count how many miles you walk in a week instead of always jumping in the car.
- Start a recycling program at your school. Recycle paper you would ordinarily throw in the trash.
- Talk to your principals about only using washable dishes at lunch, no more plastic or Styrofoam.
- Plant a garden and harvest the vegetables.
These are just a few ideas to help get you thinking! Be creative with your ideas and make sure you will be making a sustainable impact on your community, school or home! Girl Scouts Louisiana East will be in the spotlight as this program continues over the next 3 years. Come and join in the fun!
Please email your project ideas to forevergreen@gsle.org. Follow up information will be sent to you via email. We want to make sure we track our efforts and send all of our information in to the Girl Scouts national headquarters so they can present a final report to the nation when we celebrate our 100th anniversary. Additional collaborator information will be sent to you as well. This is a very exciting project for Girl Scouts of the USA and Girl Scouts Louisiana East! A few of the collaborators on board already are General Electric, The Disney Nature Group, Waste Management, Whole Foods, and more!
Please continue to check the website under the “Forever Green” link. All information will be posted and updated on a regular basis.

Make a "draft-o-meter" and check for drafts in your home and/or meeting place. Have an adult repair the drafts. —Melynda Rodrigue, Leader, Daisy Troop 548
Love to make crafts using items that would otherwise be thrown out. We have made many things from baby food jars, jar lids, milk cartons, etc.
Save envelopes and hand out patches and small supplies in these envelopes rather than purchasing new ones. Saves money and the environment. —Kerry Toups Troop 1204 and 478
