2008 Rhapsody in Green gala a success

Friends and supporters of Girl Scouts Louisiana East enjoyed a Night of Glitz, Glamour, and Girl Scouting at the second annual Rhapsody in Green gala. The gala was held on Saturday, June 21, at the Louisiana Children’s Museum in new Orleans, preceded by a patron party.

Rhapsody in Green was co-chaired this year by board member and second vice chair Peggy Armstrong and husband Robert, and the master of ceremonies was WWL-TV news anchor Eric Paulsen assisted by awards presenter and FOX news anchor Nancy Parker.

The night was filled with live musical entertainment by Wanda Rouzan and Kermit Ruffins, a silent auction and raffle, along with delicious hors d’oeuvres and beverages.

Honorees included gentlemen who have positively impacted the Girl Scout Movement and the local community. They included State Representative Austin Badon, Jr. (D-Eastern New Orleans); Kenneth Carter, Esquire; Ron Guillory, Director of Human Resources, Public Affairs and Security, Valero Energy Corporation; Corey Hebert, MD, Medical Director, Louisiana Recovery School District; William A. Oliver, President, AT&T Louisiana; Dr. William W. Sutton, retired educator, and Judge Melvin Zeno, 24th Judicial District, Division P.

Sponsors at the Senior level were AT&T Louisiana and Valero Energy Corporation; Brownie sponsors included the Patrick F. Taylor Foundation, and Daisy sponsors were Robert & Peggy Armstrong, Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz, PC, Baton Rouge Printing, Mary Jane & John Becker, Jacquelyn Daniels, and Freeport-McMoRan. All proceeds are going to fund ongoing programs at Girl Scouts Louisiana East.
